Day 2 - New York to Worcester, MA

I didn’t sleep too well as the occupants next door seemed to have the TV on all night – it was still going at 5.45 in the morning – so after about 3 hours sleep it was time to have breakfast and hit the road.

The plan for today was to head up towards Worcester, MA, stopping to find a couple of necessary Jasmer caches and at least one cache per state on the way up.

The first two caches Sleepy Hollow and Turkey Cache were set in November 2000 and the warning signs caught our attention – it’s the first time we’ve been warned about coyotes and rattlesnakes when out caching.

One thing that did surprise us was how rough the roads are  – nowhere near as bad as the massive pot holes we encountered in Hungary but still very bumpy, I don’t think we experienced any smooth surfaced roads the whole day!  At least the motorways in Hungary were OK but here they are awful everywhere!

Heading out of New York state northwards we stopped off in Connecticut to do a webcam and then a detour into Rhode Island.  We didn’t go very far into Rhode Island but it was noticeable how patriotic everyone seemed to be with US flags flying on all properties and it seemed as though we’d found proper America at last.

It was lovely to be enjoying the sunshine again too, what better way to start the autumn than with a trip to sunnier climes – we enjoyed a balmy 24 degrees today and I was back in my shorts and sandals.  It’s going to be very hard going back home, by then it will be so much colder than when we left.
Day 2 - 243 mile

We’ve had a brilliant day today, a fair bit of driving but we’ve been to some lovely places.

After having an evening meal at Panera Bread, we checked into the very large Best Western Hotel. The room had two 'queen size' beds. Not quite what we were expecting but the second bed came in very handy as a suitcase stand.
